The Inspiration of Caleb

Tim Savage

Scripture
"I said, 'Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you.'" (Hosea 10:12)
Observation
Last night we attended the graduation party of a young man who has spent the last 7 years serving with the video ministry. It was a great celebration of music, dance, friends, family and great food. Truly a Hawaiian event, colorful, multi-generational, fun and held in the heart of Nanakuli. But the best thing about this party was that Caleb was so deserving of it. He's spent the last 7 years of his life sacrificing his time on the weekends to serve his Lord and Savior, paddling faithfully with his canoe club and earning great grades at Word of Life academy.

When it was my turn to talk about Caleb in front of the group, I said that the highest compliment I could give him was that I'd be happy and proud if my children turned out like him. He has been raised in the ways of the Lord and he will not depart from Him. I know this is true of Caleb. His family did a great job instilling in him the Father's love and he understands what it means to be a fully committed servant of Christ.

They planted the seeds of righteousness in his heart and we all had a hand in helping to water those seeds.
Application
I'm so glad my family and I got to experience the love and aloha at the Barrett's Ohana. You could really see the community that raised Caleb - the caring, Christian people that had influence over him. And now as he goes off to the Coast Guard Academy, he goes with the spirit and teaching of the wonderful community that has surrounded him during his life.

Jojan and Wes raised him well and I am honored to have been a part of his life. I will be inspired by Caleb's example and my strength and stamina are renewed by this young man. I know that the effort and time that we, as a team, invest in young people are not in vain, but instead, help to train up a new generation of Godly leaders.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for young men and women like Caleb who are growing up in to mature and fruitful leaders for You. Thank you for the wonderful celebration that reminds us that we had a small part to play success of raising him to be Your fully committed servant. I ask You to watch over and bless him and all of our amazing young people. Please give us the wisdom, strength and courage to mentor and lead them well.

In Jesus name,
Amen
