I Am Ashamed and Disgraced...

Rod Shimabukuro

"'For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. You will live in the land I gave your forefathers; you will be my people, and I will be your God. I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and make it plentiful and will not bring famine upon you. I will increase the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field, so that you will no longer suffer disgrace among the nations because of famine. Then you will remember your evil ways and wicked deeds, and you will loathe yourselves for your sins and detestable practices. I want you to know that I am not doing this for your sake, declares the Sovereign LORD. Be ashamed and disgraced for your conduct, O house of Israel! (Ezekiel 36:24-32)
I couldn't help but choose the context of these verses. The Lord gathered His people together and gave them a new start, a new heart, a new life! From captivity to prosperity. From decrease too increase...from down and dirty to plenty and clean. The promises of God came true - He is a Restorer - a Redeemer!

It's interesting to me that he does call me to remember my evil ways. Although He is a God that forgives and gives me brand new starts, He calls me to remember what I came from, what I did to violate my relationship with Him in the past - to be ashamed and disgraced for my conduct.

No, He does not condemn, His heart is not to shove the past in my face. God gives me a new start, life, heart and confidence...then He calls me to remember my past. So I have the confidence to not walk under condemnation, not live under disgrace and shame - but to life is to lived for His sake, for His kingdom - NOT MINE!
There's so many thoughts I have through these passages - but I want to live differently today, by remembering the shameful, disgraceful thoughts and attitudes I've recently had. How these thoughts and attitudes have affected my heart and relationship with God. I've violated Him - even my own heart and desire to be a man of integrity.

As I remember my evil ways and wicked deeds, I am confident that I am forgiven, given a clean slate, a clean start - a new day with tons of grace to live empowered unto Jesus!!

I am ashamed and disgraced for my recent thoughts, attitudes and conduct - but I don't live there!!! By the blood of Jesus, His forgiving grace, His love and peace that fills my heart, the overwhelming confidence I have through the Holy Spirit----He is My God!!
Very Cool Lord...thanks for this word - for the freedom I have in You to be real, honest and receive understanding by Your Spirit, to know Your character and ways. Thanks for showing me how to live in a way that stays clear from living under condemnation. I choose You Lord - to walk under Your great love and grace, above my carnality, the enemy!
