Measuring Up To Jesus

Rod Shimabukuro

"This is to continue until all of us are united in our faith and in our knowledge about God's Son, until we become mature, until we measure up to Christ, who is the standard." (Ephesians 4:13)
The measure and mark of maturity is easily identified by the goal and standard we desire to become or live up to. As I watch excellent, very skilled youth, playing hockey at the regional in line roller hockey tournament here on Maui, I am in awe! I can see it in the eyes of our New Hope players, including my son and daughter. The recognition of talent, skill and giftedness of "upper level" players. They could easily become discouraged by comparing themselves to more skilled players. Or, they could rise in attitude, heart and effort to work towards playing their best - only to get better!
Who am I measuring myself by? Who do I want to be like? How's my attitude? Do I get discouraged or motivated by measuring myself against this standard? Am I really measuring myself up to Jesus when it comes to the way I serve at church?

God only knows, there are some real defects that need to be fixed within me. It's attitudes of doing well and good more than doing right unto God - pleasing man more than pleasing God - the congruency of the public face and life and the private face and life ---- Attitudes and motivations that lay within me, need to be addressed and adjusted.
Here we go again and again and again Lord. More attitudes, more motivations that need adjustment and alignment with You!!! Please, please, please...Help me Lord...Forgive Me and align me so I can become more like You...from the inside...out!
