Confidence Killers

Rod Shimabukuro

"We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first." (Hebrews 3:14)
Hardness of heart, sin's deceitfulness, rebellion, unbelief - all characteristics that affect Christians in a way to that they lose hope, courage and their confidence in God.

The Jewish Christians were no different from us who have been blessed with a revelation of who Jesus is, sharing in relationship with Him.

There are confidence killers and confidence builders in life. Both lay within us and around us.
The confidence killers within me are no different from what the Jewish Christians dealt with. The writer's warnings are for me this morning. If I allow sour attitudes and impure motives to linger in my heart and mind - I will torture and murder my spiritual confidence in Christ.

I am also reminded of the confidence in Christ builders this morning.
I must always build on good foundation so I must keep a pure heart. One of the themes of my life is repentance - thank God for repentance and forgiveness, which keeps my heart pure and my foundation strong.

Then I use good spiritual materials. It sounds so redundant but my devotional time in God's Word, prayer, fasting, worship through song, praying in the Spirit and fellowship, all help me build my confidence in Jesus.

Today, I need to spend more time in solitude - in prayer, in meditation on Him, praying unto Him, listening with intent and desire to become more like Jesus.
Jesus, thanks for being my Confidence and for firmly holding on to me. Help me to be keenly aware of when the confidence killers are lurking around my life. Help me to make wise decisions in my mind and heart to be a Godly husband and father.
