Getting to Know the Creator

Rick Beckett

Scripture
Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. In this new life, it doesn't matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. Colossians 3:10-11
Observation
Watch someone who is in love. They sit and talk for hours on end. It is nearly impossible to get that person off phone, because they really want to get to know the other person.

I remember when Tatum and I started dating. I racked up a $300 phone bill! I dislike talking on the phone (I'd rather talk in person), but when I started to fall for my wife, I talked for hours on end. I think I had a permanent phone mark on my ear! I was in love, and I wanted to know everything about her.

In the same way, we are in a pursuit of getting to know our creator (as the scripture puts is), and it is a huge part our faith. A sign of love for God is a yearning to know everything about Him, and a desire to get closer to the Father. It's called INTIMACY and it is essential to our faith.

Look at David in the book of psalms. Time and time again we get a raw picture of the heart of someone who desires to know his Creator. This intimacy in heart is something we need to find and develop for God. It fuels our faith.
Application
I want to come back to a place of intimacy with Jesus. Sitting in His presence, meditating on the scriptures throughout the day, speaking to Him in prayer, singing to Him with passion. Love for Jesus is what fuels my faith, and if I am not creating time for intimacy with Jesus, I will soon run on empty. Intimacy is the key.
Prayer
Father,

Thank you for bringing me back to the basics. I want to know you more! Help me to find times of intimacy with You so that I can cultivate a genuine love that is overflowing, and that helps me to love others as well! Thank you so much!
