Wake UP! God is at Work

Rick Beckett

"Then the angel said to him, "Put on your clothes and sandals." And Peter did so. "Wrap your cloak around you and follow me," the angel told him. Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him." (Acts 12:8-10)
Peter was in prison. King Herod had just started a campaign against those who claimed to be Christians. So Peter was arrested, and sent to jail. Not only was he locked up, but four squads of four soldiers were put in charge of him. That is a total of 16 men responsible to make sure that this prisoner did not escape. Then came the miracle, at some point in the night, an angel woke Peter up and escorted him out of prison! It was as easy as that. None of the soldiers woke, and Peter walked out totally free.

We can see something interesting in this. In the midst of this miracle, Peter had no idea what was really happening. I'm not sure if he needed a cup of Starbucks coffee or a cold shower, but Peter didn't know what was going on! It wasn't until after the angel left that Peter realized a great miracle had occurred.
I wonder how often I miss seeing God at work in my life? They say that hindsight is 20-20 meaning, we can easily put the past in the right prospective, but the present can sometimes be distorted. I can go through life without noticing God at work. Work, home, gym, chores, work, etc., and I forget to look around at what God is doing. I feel like I can be in the midst of miracles, and just like Peter, I don't realize what is going on.

I need to take time to soak up the victories. God has transformed lives around me. Youth have come to know Christ in amazing ways. Many salvations have occured! High school students that were straying have come back, and gotten serious about their faith. Leaders have committed to full time ministry, and are realizing their calling. God is doing great work!

If I don't take time to be alert to what God is doing, I miss everything. I need to soak up the victories, and take the miracles to heart. God is working wonders, and I seeing His hand at work?
Father, Help me to have eyes that see what you are doing in and around me. I don't what to become callous to your work, I want to fully marvel in all that you do! Thank you for miracles! In Jesus Name, AMEN.
