Blind Man

Richard Waialeale

"They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man's eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, "Do you see anything?" He looked up and said, "I see people; they look like trees walking around." Once more Jesus put his hands on the man's eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. Jesus sent him home, saying, "Don't go into the village." (Mark 8:22-26)
What amazes me in this scripture comes right at the start with the blind man's friends. Their concern and compassion for their friend was probably more faith and spiritual walk then the blind person himself had. This reminds me of how important it is to pray for others on a daily basis. The power of others concern and compassion through prayer is the same as the blind mans friend taking him before Jesus Christ.
As the sun begins to rise in the morning, a brand new day starts slowly, and then begins to bring light into a perfect day. At sunrise, it's still hard to see until the sunlight comes into full position to shine it's light. The same is with Jesus' healing, when our spiritual walk is begins, it's sort of confusing and not all that clear. But as Jesus rises in our lives and shines brightly, His light opens us up to a perfect day. It's slow and gradual but we can be sure its a whole lot better then walking into trees.
The power of prayer is incredible. I need to wake up each morning praying for thanksgiving, never taking for granted the light of Jesus shining into a brand new day. Throughout the day I can continue to pray for those I may have missed in the morning. I notice the concern that the blind mans friends had, which tells me their hearts were filled with compassion. The only way I can get into that same posture is to start each morning praying for forgiveness of my sins. I must repent each morning, setting myself straight with Jesus before I start praying for anything else.
Thank you Lord for showing me to see for myself, some of the things I can do first thing in the morning as Your light begins to shine. It's a beautiful day outside and I want to reflect Your light brightly to others. Thank you Jesus for Your love, compassion and answers to prayer. Amen.
