Becoming a Mountain Mover

Rick Beckett

Scripture
"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have receive it, and it will be yours." (Mark 11:22-23)
Observation
As the disciples are walking into Jerusalem to do ministry, they pass a fig tree that Jesus had cursed the day before. Sure enough, the fig tree was withered and dead. Seeing a teachable moment, Jesus then talks to the disciples about their own prayers. He points to a mountain, and says to the disciples that if they can believe in their hearts, they can move mountains just like the ones they see around them.

For us, we might picture Jesus pointing to a mountain like Diamond Head, and saying if you want to see diamond head moved into the ocean, all you have to do is ask, and believe in your heart that it WILL be done, and your prayer will be answered.

I'm pretty sure that Jesus isn't teaching people to move literal mountains, but the sheer magnitude of this miracle shows us that WITH God all things are possible.
Application
I wonder how many of us look at mountains and just think... "That would be impossible"? How many of us have mountains in our own lives that we don't even attempt to pray for? A family member that seems too far gone, a financial situation that looks hopeless, a schedule that leaves no room to breathe, we all have our own mountains. The truth that Jesus exposes to us is that nothing is impossible for God. If it lines up with His will, and if we pray with a believing heart, we CAN move mountains.

Faith caused a woman to grab Jesus and believe for healing in the middle of a massive mob. Faith caused the blind to yell for Jesus' attention. Faith allowed the Roman military man to ask Jesus to just say the words... it is faith that makes God smile, and makes room for the miraculous.

I am reminded today that I need to move by faith and not by site. Not by seeking my own selfish desires, but asking for God to do huge things in His Kingdom. To move mountains so that He can be honored and that more can come to know Him.
Prayer
Father, Forgive me for doubt and unbelief. Forgive me for all the times I've looked at the mountains in my life with a sense of defeat instead of belief. Help me with faith. Help me to see life the way that you do! In Jesus Name, AMEN.
