Developing Strength in GOD

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power." (Ephesians 5:10)
Observation
In his closing remarks to the disciples of Ephesus, Paul writes of specific ways to live successfully as Christians. He parallels dressing with armor for war with spiritual armor because he realizes that as Christ followers, we are all in spiritual war!

His opening thought reminds me that leaning on my strength, what I think will make me a "strong person" is not how God wants to develop His strength in my life. It's not "Be strong in Rod and his mighty power" or "Be strong in positive thinking, health, looks, character..."
Application
"Develop spiritual strength in My mighty power Rod, not yours. You are trying to do your best, do great work, plan, prepare, be organized, be ‘on top of everything' - that's great, but be careful not to see this as making you a strong, great Christian." --- says the Lord. This is what I sense in my heart, God is speaking to me this morning.

I can live differently today by:
  1. Simply acknowledging that my strength comes from God. While He is developing me to be my very best for Him in word and deed, I must remember that my Christianity is based on "being IN HIM!"
  2. Consider His mighty power and being clothed in HIM. How I dress my mind, heart, attitude comes through spiritual practices and disciplines, as Paul writes in verses 11-18.
Prayer
Daddie God! You know exactly what I need! Thanks for allowing me to hear you this morning - for opening my spiritual ears and eyes - for Your living Word made alive in my life! I feel like I'm dressed this morning to live successfully unto You!!

Help me to honor You - especially with my family. You know my desires to be a Godly husband and father. This is where I desire Your strength and to be clothed all day long, NOT LETTING MY GUARD DOWN! I love You Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit!
