The Plagues Ceased and He Sinned Again

Dominick Kaaihue

"So Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread out his hands to the Lord; and the thunder and the hail ceased, and rain no longer poured on the earth. But when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder had ceased, he sinned again and hardened his heart, he and his servants. Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not let the sons of Israel go, just as the Lord had spoken through Moses." (Exodus 9:33-35)
Pharaoh did this all the time. Every time he got Moses and Aaron to ask God to repent from a plague - HE SINNED AGAIN. He never changed his heart... He only got them and God to cease the plagues.

I would think the kinds of super-natural disasters he and his nation faced would bring about a repentance, a confession, a turning to God from sin, but it didn't. There was no Godly sorrow for their sinful actions only hardness and a desire to sin again. HOW DUMB CAN THAT BE? WAKE UP BULL!!!

However, we/I can be just like Pharaoh in this area. How? Well, if we/I sin in the same areas over and over again EVEN after begging God to help us... Isn't that Pharaoh-like? If we/I haven't had a change of heart after we've sinned and suffered, isn't that Pharaoh like?
I don't know about you, but there have been too many times in my life where the consequences for my sinful action ceased but I had little or no change of heart. As a result of my hardness, it has stolen some of my potential, blown my witness, and brought unneeded pain and discouragement in my life and in those I lead.

When God is dealing with sin in my life, I can no longer harden my heart - IT MUST CHANGE! I can no longer be satisfied with the RELIEF God brings from repenting - I MUST RUN FROM SIN. True maturity comes from the total dying to sin and living for God. PHEW! I've got a long road ahead of me.
Lord, I know that it's not simple. I'm more Pharaoh-like than I care to admit. But, thank you for your love and grace as I change my heart to your will and ways. In Jesus name...Amen
