Exchanging Truth

Rick Beckett

Scripture
"They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the creator Himself who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires." (Romans 1:25-26)
Observation
Finding the truth is so important to staying in tune with God. In this passage to the churches in Rome, Paul is describing a pattern that takes place in the hearts of people who reject the truth. Eventually what happens is a slow erosion that claims the hearts and lives of those who reject truth. People become deceived when they reject Truth, and the alternatives are not good. Romans 6:23 reads, "the wages of sin is death." When we reject truth, we open the door to death.

How do we find Truth?

We live life by the Scriptures...not our desires or our emotions; we live life by God's Word.

I was hanging out with a high school student, and I had to correct him about something. I told him that what he was doing was wrong, and that he was going against what a senior leader at New Hope had requested. He replied, " I told you, I don't listen to anyone but my mom. That is what I believe."

When people make their own Truth life gets dangerous.

I sat him down and explained to him about wisdom, elders, and listening to leaders, but the unsettling fact is that people are making their own truth without regard to anything the Bible says, and the outcome is not good.
Application
I am going to have all kinds of choices in life. I must make sure that I correct myself back to God's Word. I want to walk in the truth, so that I choose the path that leads to life, not the path that easily deceives. God's Word is truth, and I must never exchange that truth for a lie, no matter how small it may seem at the time. Sometimes the smallest choices are the biggest deal to God. I need to pursue TRUTH everyday.
Prayer
Father thank you for your Word. Without your Word, I don't know where I would be. Help me to make it my compass, so that every decision I make can be that which stems from the TRUTH, and that which leads me to the right place! In Jesus Name, Amen
