Inscribed by the Finger of God

Richard Waialeale

"When I went up on the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the LORD had made with you, I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water. The LORD gave me two stone tablets inscribed by the finger of God. On them were all the commandments the LORD proclaimed to you on the mountain out of the fire, on the day of the assembly." (Deuteronomy 9:9-10)
Where is it that you can go to do your devotions that you can feel God's presence the most? For some people it's right at home where its quiet, for others it may be at Starbucks or some other coffee place. What I'm saying is that we hear God in many different ways and circumstances, but there are those times and places that make a huge impact.
I can only imagine how it must have been for Moses, going up to mount Horeb and feeling God's presence around him and writing down everything God was saying to him. It might not have been his personal devotions, but writing down God's instructions is sort of like writing down a message prep for Moses to deliver God's Word. What an incredible feeling it must have been for him, writing God's instructions for the people, not even concerned about his physical desires like eating or drinking water. Whether its preparing a message for the people to hear, or my own personal devotions, when God is showing me something, the feeling is indescribable. Its as if it's "inscribed by the finger of God" Himself.
Yesterday I went for a run and during that time I could feel God showing me something that I could use in a message. This is not the first time this happened, that God shows me things when I'm jogging. I was once told to do my devotions or message prep when I'm at my best. Well it seems like I'm at my best when I'm alone, running, or should I say at this age, jogging. The problem is its not like I run carrying a pad and pen on me. But I need to remember what the Lord is showing me during this time and as soon as I get home to write it down. I find my mind is at its best when I'm exercising and I can think better on the run (sort of speak). The lesson for me today is to watch for the presence of God around me at all times and especially when I exercise (focus).
Lord continue to show me Your direction and instructions that I can share with those You place in front of me. I pray that I share what You place on my heart and speak words that are shown to me by You. Thank you for blessing me with each day that I get to be in Your presence. Amen.
