The Greater Purpose of Suffering

Rod Shimabukuro

"Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand." (Isaiah 53:10)
In this prophetic chapter, Isaiah, writes of the ministry of God's son. You gotta wonder how much insight Isaiah had regarding God's plan. It would be
over 700 years later that God would fulfill this prophetic word through Jesus!

Who likes suffering? Not me! How do I reconcile in my heart and mind that God would crush His Son and cause Him to suffer? What kind of theology is that? That a loving God would initiate suffering? But there is a greater purpose. His ways are higher and greater. He is smarter, more loving - He is God who knows what He is doing. Like I tell my kids - Your mom and I have more experience in life, we see the bigger picture...therefore...Trust US!

So I must trust my Father - that the will of the Lord will prosper through His hand!
The older I get, the more I see through His eyes, the more I can understand that God can do as He pleases for the sake of His will - His purposes! SO it is with suffering. I surely don't understand it all - Godly people die of cancer, car accidents, in war and through many other means of persecution. Ask Christians in China or other communist led countries.

My take home today:
  • Accept suffering as I serve the Lord with all my heart. Suffering can be a defining moment to transform me into His image.
  • Don't shy away from teaching people that suffering can be of God. Especially when we want our miracle working - powerful God to heal us in this life.
I want to live differently in conviction, that for me to live is Christ - to die is gain. While I pray for healing, believing God for healing - don't forget - it's God who heals - it's God we trust - it's God I still trust to heal...and it's God who gives life and does inflict suffering for a greater purpose than I can comprehend.
This is a tough one to comprehend Lord - I'm not going to lie! But thanks for giving me a glimpse of Your wisdom - to trust You and Your infinite wisdom and ways!
I love You - in sickness and in health -whether rich or poor - through every and any circumstance in life! I love You super much!
