Subtle Odors of Pride

Rod Shimabukuro

"Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord." (1 Corinthians 1:3)
Paul writes that the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom. With all the scholars, philosophers, false prophets, & teachers and leaders of the day vying for their voice to be heard, pride and divisiveness must have been evident among them.

Listen to people... We like talking about ourselves don't we? Most of us want to be heard in some way or another. From being blatantly proud to subtle leaking a hint of self centeredness, the odor of boasting can fill the air.
When I listen intently to others, I hear so much "self" - "I" - in the conversation. How many times do I say "I" in my conversations? Boasting can be an issue with me - yet it surfaces in sneaky little ways.

This morning, I want my heart, thoughts, language - to make it's boast in the Lord. Even when I'm talking about "me" or my situations or life, it's the subtlety and hints of pride that sneaks out of my attitude at times.

Some action points for me:
Be more silent in conversations and fight the need to be heard.

Ask more questions to probe others - so they can be heard. One of my weaknesses is listening intently, when I'm busy thinking about "ME!"
Lord - I honor You! I don't want to just prepare my heart to worship my Risen Lord - I want to live my worship out - through my listening, talking, thoughts, heart, relationships. May I make You my Pride and Boasting! I love You - My Risen Lord, King And Friend!!!!
