Searching in Silence

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture
"In your anger do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. Offer right sacrifices and trust in the LORD." (Psalm 4:4-5)
Observation
"Believe it or not, I'm not sinning even though I am ticked off at you!", I said to one of my precious children. They didn't believe me but rather accused me of "blowing up" again.

There's an anger that leads to righteousness rather than sin. I believe that - I've experienced this kind of righteous anger. Standing up for what is truth, holy, right with an attitude of brokenness, with God's heart is righteous anger to me.

It is true for me that when I go to bed, laying before the Lord, recapping the day, evaluating my heart and life, the silent searching of my heart seems to always find me making things right with God.
Application
I have such a great desire to offer right sacrifices and trust God - but not just at bedtime. My heart is to live this way, throughout the day...evaluating my actions, words, thoughts and even mannerisms!

I can live differently by:
  1. practicing the art of evaluation all the day long - even before trouble or difficult situations arise. I can search my heart in silence making it a habit to ask God questions involving my heart, motives, attitudes.
  2. Check my mannerisms too. This stands out to me for some reason this morning!!!! How's my countenance, reactions in face and body language in "sticky/touchy" situations? I think I need to check how my face, demeanor and body language is responding when I'm troubled.
Prayer
Once again God, I'm blessed by Your touch and conviction in my heart. I do need You, Your strength and grace to produce fruit and live a changed life! I love YOU!!!
