Practice, Passion and Progress

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture
"Practice and cultivate and meditate upon these duties; throw yourself wholly into them [as your ministry], so that your progress may be evident to everybody." (1 Timothy 4:15)
Observation
Paul's instruction to Timothy was to use the gifts that God gave him (that was prophesied over him) and NOT NEGLECT them. Timothy may have been facing his own insecurities, challenges of dealing with skilled, older, wiser, more mature leaders in and outside of the church) - since he was young in age and in Christ.

Like a wise spiritual father, Paul tells Timothy to "Go for it and give it your BEST & your ALL! I want all of us around you to see and experience your progress! Give me some results by disciplining your life - practice, practice, PRACTICE!"
Application
I'm motivated, inspired and challenged to practice and develop the passion of my calling so that I may show progress to God and others. God wants me to progress and be an ambassador of progress. Showing improvement and growth for the sake of fulfilling God's calling is a Godly thing!

The Amplified version reads - "..Throw yourself wholly into your ministry..." So no half hearted commitment on my part.

I can live differently today by:

  1. Not hesitating to "go for it" in times when I feel that I'm being judged or "talked about."
  2. Overcoming Neglect by practicing my passion - the passion of His calling in my life!
  3. I'm going overboard for Jesus - throwing my heart and life wholly into His will. So I need to fight the fleshly desires so I may show progress!
Prayer
I want to do Your will in and through my life, for You...so badly - yet I fumble and stumble around in my "fleshy" attitudes, pity parties and insecurities. I'm going for it Lord! Better yet...I'm going for MORE OF YOU LORD!!!! Give me strength to practice the passion of Your calling on my life, that I may show You progress, to honor You!
