I Should Change My Status

Richard Waialeale

"Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him. Were you a slave when you were called? Don't let it trouble you - although if you can gain your freedom, do so. For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord's freedman; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ's slave. You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. Brothers, each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to." (1 Corinthians 7:20-24)
Throughout 1 Corinthians 7, Paul writes about marriage and being faithful to one another. But in the middle of this chapter, Paul writes about staying in the situation that a person is in as God will call and use you right where your at. What this part of Corinthians reminds me of is how people will want to change their entire life to think their walk with Jesus will improve. What these scriptures tells me is we can always improve in our relationship with Jesus but not to the extend of making changes in our earthly lives. Stay where your at and work on your relationship with Christ right where your standing. Our relationship with Jesus is what counts, not where we stand in this world or the position we hold in employment. So many people feel that they need to be hired on staff with the church to better their standing with God. Not so!
If my social situation should change, would it change the way I serve Jesus? I cannot honestly say, because it hasn't changed. If I wasn't on staff with NHO, would it change the way I serve Jesus? Probably, but for better or less - I don't know. The point I need to get to is that I will serve God and walk with Jesus no matter what I'm doing in this world, in my social status or on staff with the church. I need to be all that I can be with Jesus wherever I'm at or in this world and in this life. I've built my relationship with Christ, been forgiven and accepted by God as His own, to allow my relationship to go south, that much I know. Whatever changes in this world or in my social situation, I pray it has no bearing on my love for Jesus and how I serve Him.
Lord I thank you for today's reading on marriage and how You have blessed me to be where I'm at. I pray Lord for those that are searching for Jesus this Easter holiday and that I recognize the opportunities to evangelize. Thank you for using me in Your Kingdom right where I'm at. Amen.
