Fences and Wells

Wayne Cordeiro

"The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God." (Hebrews 7:18)
"For the law made nothing perfect..."

The Law built fences. Either you were in or you were out. Churches and Christians build fences ... laws, penalty lines, and out of bounds.

What we need are wells. Let me explain.

In Australia, the ranches are so large covering many square hectors, that they couldn't build enough fence line to contain their cattle. It would be hundreds of miles of barbed wire, and checking and repairing would be a full time job for a crew of 20. So instead of trying to contain their cattle so they wouldn't run off, they would build watering holes.

Then their cattle don't stray because they want to stay near the water. It is there that they quench their thirst. Sure, they will find new grass, find new pasture, but they'll always return to the wells ... not because of fences, but because of water.
I want New Hope to build wells rather than fences. I want to do that with my family so that the fresh water of wells keeps us healthy and refreshed.

The Lord builds wells too. He doesn't keep me close with fences, penalty lines or out of bounds markers. He simply says, "Whosoever will may come and drink freely from the wells of life."
Dear Father:

How thankful I am for Your embrace and refreshing. May I learn to do the same, and may all who come through New Hope learn the same. I want to build wells, not fences.
