An Intimate Friendship with the Almighty God

September 18 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Job 29 Job had an intimate friendship with God. In his sufferings, he recounted the time when he tasted God's protection and "God's intimate friendship blessed my house" (verse 4).
Job was a mortal man whom everlasting God exalted as exemplary, in the way he lived, blameless and upright, fearing God and shunning evil. Job 29:4 tells us the secret to Job's blameless life - not one of religiosity but one where there is an intimate knowledge of the Lord God as a Friend. Simply put, he lived a good life because he knew and loved God. The earthly blessings that come with such a life are a bonus but they are transient and may not always be there, as in the case of Job. Ultimately, our friendship with God Himself is what fulfills and satisfies.
I want to be a friend of God all my life, to live a life worthy of Him, that honors Him. I seek to dwell in His house all the days of my life, to gaze upon His beauty and seek Him in His temple.
Dear Lord, grant me a hunger and a desperation for You, that I prioritize an intimate friendship with you above all else. Empower me to order my life in a manner worthy of You, out of love for You, so that I will be transformed into Your likeness with ever-increasing glory.
