Fully Equipped for the Fight

June 10 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Ephesians 6:11 (New Living Translation)"Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil."
I don't watch a whole lot of movies, but whenever I come across this part of the Bible, I visualize Rambo, or Arnold Schwarzenegger, getting all duked up for war. Grenades, harnesses, belts, armor vests, helmets... and what Stallone or Schwarzenegger movie is complete without their weapons!

In those movies, you'll never see these larger-than-life heroes miss their belts, forget a harness or a bracket, and God-forbid if they went out on their missions minus a gun, knife, grenade, rocket launcher, or other contraption of warfare! It would be absurd!

Why then, do we, and myself especially, set out as God's warriors, so often ill-equipped for battle? Paul illustrates the need for Christians to be FULLY equipped, balanced, properly prepared, for "we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, mighty powers, evil spirits... (v.12)

So Paul says to put on ALL of God's armor... we will then stand firm against ALL strategies of the devil.
I'm convinced that the devil knows more about the Bible than I do. Than just about all of us. And he'll do anything... ANYTHING, to make us slip up and fall... looking for our weak spots. It's his prime mission to destroy God's followers!

But if we intentionally, consistently, equip ourselves with truth... God's righteousness... readiness to share Jesus with anyone, anytime, any way... unshakable faith... and salvation on our minds, we will be ready... almost!

Most importantly to me, I must take up the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, each and every day, and be able to handle it to be "adequate and equipped for every good work" (2Timothy 3:17)

The LORD presents us with this "equipment" to do His ministry every day. I will be diligent to carry it out... well prepared and fully equipped for the fight.
Lord Jesus, without You, I lose already. But with and in You, I cannot fail! Thank You for equipping me for battle, and for Paul's reminder to go out "fully equipped" every day.
