For the choir director; on a stringed instrument. A Psalm of David.
Hear my cry, O God; Give heed to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a refuge for me, A tower of strength against the enemy. Let me dwell in Your tent forever; Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah.
For You have heard my vows, O God; You have given me the inheritance of those who fear Your name. You will prolong the king's life; His years will be as many generations. He will abide before God forever; Appoint lovingkindness and truth that they may preserve him. So I will sing praise to Your name forever, That I may pay my vows day by day. PSALM 61
No matter what David's circumstances or where he was, it seems he always turned to the Lord in prayer. Whether times were difficult or going well, he called out to the Lord with prayers of praise, adoration and thanksgiving. He knew that praying and talking to the Lord would help to give him strength, and lift him from out of any darkness his soul might have been experiencing. He can't help but turn his wailing into praising as he prays.
David is a great example of what prayer can do. Praying can touch the lives of so many through prayers of intersession. It can bring you out of the darkness and into the light. Prayer will bring you closer to the Lord then you could ever imagine. You will develop a deeper, richer relationship with God through prayer. Your life will become fuller, happier and more abundant when you go to the Lord with your griefs, hurts, sorrows, joys, praises and desires. It doesn't matter if you are eloquent, just talk to Him. Daily prayer will change your life. Give it a try.
Lord, thank you for encouraging me through the prayers of David. When my prayers seem empty or hollow, fill me with a new fervor and thirst for You. Thank you for this gift of communication with you, and as I pray, draw me into your presence Lord, and refresh my soul. Amen.
