Don't be offended by the truth

December 25 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Scripture
On hearing it, many of his disciples said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?"
Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, "Does this offend you? What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.Yet there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. He went on to say, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him."
From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
"You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve.
Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."
Then Jesus replied, "Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!" (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)John 6:60-71

Observation
It seems that many people did not like what Jesus was saying. Either they were getting offended of what he was saying, did not understand a word Jesus was saying, or did not want to learn the lessons Jesus was teaching. But when it comes to the truth, God's word may make people upset and uncomfortable. Simply because the truth convicts us and many times we don't want to be convicted. We simply want to hear words that make us feel good, and we have selective hearing. But having selective hearing will only lead us into deception. And when some of the disciples did not like what Jesus was saying, they all deserted Him. When Jesus asked the disciples if they were going to leave Him, and only Simon Peter said "NO". It looks like the truth was hard to take for some people who were following Jesus, but the thuth is neccesary for anyone to be free from the bondage of sin. The people did not realize that the truth is so important, for them to have a intimate relationship with God, the truth brings us clsoer to God and allows us to know Him better. For the truth is God and God is truth. The people needed to embrace the truth and to follow it with thier whole heart.
Application
Does the truth offend me? Does the truth sometimes hurt? I need to realize that I need the truth in my life, to lead me and guide me. And many times the truth may sound offensive and will hurt. I need to embrace it and obey it, simply because the truth is the best thing to do. I need to accept the truth and follow it, I need to know what is truth. Whicj simply means anything that reaffims reality. The truth needs to be apart my life and my relationship with God, simply because to know God is to know the truth. I have to love, embrace and accept the truth because I love God and want to honor Him in my life. If I wnat to be more like God, I have to follow and obey the truth.
Prayer
Heavenly Father thank you for your word. I ask you to help me love and embrace the truth. help me to follow and obey it, so that I can know you. Help me to accept the truth, so that I can become more like you. I want to know the truth, so that I can be free from the bondage of sin. In Jesus name. Amen
