Settle Disputes Quickly

December 30 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift. “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. Matthew 5:23-25
Jesus is teaching the crowd to settle thier arguments quickly. Jesus goes as far as saying that if you have a dispute with another person, to go settle it before you give God an offering. Jesus is saying that God will not accept anyones offering if they have an offense toward someone. Jesus is also teaching how the power of anger can easily take control of a situation and a person. if we don't settle our disputes quickly, we can allow anger and bitterness to take root in our heart and allow it to destroy us. So Jesus knew the importance of forgiving quickly and not allowing anger to dwell in us.
Do I settle disputes quickly? Do I allow anger and bitterness to dwell in me? I have to always seek restitution and settle all my disputes quickly, so that anger and bitterness cannot control me. I have to ask forgiviness to those who I hurt and forgive those that hurt me. I must learn what offends people, so that I will never to them. I have to choose to forgive people and let go the hurt they gave to me. I will choose to settle my disputes quickly.
Heavenly Father thank you for your word. I ask you to help settle my disputes quickly and to always forgive. Help me to never allow anger and bitterness to control me. In Jesus name. Amen.
