"It Is Time To Give The Wake Up Call"

January 14 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Luke 14:26

“If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.”

The crowds grew large, every where Jesus went a multitude of people followed along side of Him. Was it His purpose to be popular? To be liked by all? I dare say no. His messages would have been more appeasing to the likes of everyone if that were the case. Christ’s aim was not to gather appreciative crowds, but to make disciples. His words cut like a knife weeding out the half-hearted. Jesus wasted neither time or words on the undecided. He went straight for the heart of the matter, looking for those who would carry His words in every cell of their body. His challenge went far beyond lending a helping hand… It summoned the called!

Even today, among the large crowds of people there will be those who gather to spectate and that’s okay, Jesus never sent the uncommitted on their way. The line was cast to catch the heart and soul of a person, a person willing to give up everything in order to gain everything.

If my heart is not shaken or moved when I read or hear His word, if it is not stirred to change, than it is time to wait on God. His word alone captures my very being, and from that point on I follow, willingly.

I have discovered that following you is difficult when I try to juggle a divided heart, it doesn't work. Maybe that is why your words seemed at times harsh or hard to swallow. Give us your leaders, a clear and direct word that will call your disciples to stand up and be accounted. May our lives reflect the choice we have made in our heart to follow you. It is time to give the wake up call. In Jesus name, amen.
Willing and decided,
