" But we have this treasure in earthern vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God
and not from ourselves " (2Cor 4:7)
The tresure is the gospel, and it is contained in us! The greek word for 'earthern vessels' means 'baked clay' (clay pots). They were cheap, breakable and replaceable, but had necessary household functions.
Some stored valuable items; others, garbage and human waste! Paul was referring to the latter.
Often when i look and focus too much on ME, i fail to see the magnificent 'treasure' i have within ME.
This dilemma often cause my witness, my involvement, my effectiveness to other people to be useless at times.
But our wonderful, gracious God reminds me in the midst of all this 'clay pot' container lies 'surpassing greatness'.
When all i see is material, finite, fragile, earthy - it's no wonder i hardly seem to accomplish that whic is infinite, unbreakable, spiritual, heavenly!
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to see beyond what is evident around me, to a God who is completing my journey . . . day by day.
