To Love each other and Trust God.

December 18 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Scripture
“Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. He did not need human testimony about them, for he knew what was in them.” John 2:23-25
Observation
The Passover Festival was right after the changing of the water into wine miracle. Jesus was in his first stages in which He was revealing his glory, and people were starting to see the miracles he was performing. But Jesus knew that they only started to believe because of what they saw, not by their faith. The scripture says that Jesus didn’t trust them because he knew what was in them, and I think it was doubt and unbelief that was secretly in them. I mean at that moment of Jesus’ glory they probably were like, “Wow that’s amazing! He must be the messiah,” but Jesus knew that they would someday turn their backs on him. He knew he couldn’t trust man, but He still loved them.
Application
This verse reminds me of a sermon Pastor Wayne once did. It was about how we couldn’t put our trust in man, because man can fail us, disappoint us, and leave us brokenhearted. But we must put our trust in God and only Him, because God will never fail or abandon us. He spoke on how our purpose is to love one another, respect one another but not necessarily put all our hope and faith in each other because inevitably man, especially people closest to us will eventually let us down. And when that happens if our faith and trust is put in God instead of them then we can push past the pain and hurt of disappointment. I remember this sermon because it really spoke to me and I’ve kept it with me. This word has helped me get through a lot of situations and I think it’s best for all of us to remember that were here on this earth to trust God and love one another.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for today and what you have done for me. I am truly blessed by the life you have given me. I am so sorry for not trusting more in you and not loving others like I should. I need your grace to constantly remind me how much you love me and how I should love others just like you. Lord let me never forget what you have done for me, and to always love you and trust in you. :P
