A Heart of Compassion

March 2 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Mark 8: 2 “I feel compassion for the people because they have been with Me now three days and have nothing to eat.

For three days the people had been with Jesus...

The crowd backed away just a little as the Pharisees and some of the scribes approached Jesus. Even from a distanced they could still hear the accusations against Jesus and his disciples. (7:3) (As they accused him and his disciples for not observing the traditions of the elders) The people watched intently as he cast out an unclean spirit from a little girl, and a mothers tears of joy as she held her daughter now changed, before their very eyes. (7:25) Silently, every eye followed Jesus as he took a deaf man by the hand, leading him around the corner and out of sight—only to reappear whole. (7:32) Shouts of praise to God could be heard like the sound of thunder as it ripped though 4000 plus people. The wonder and amazement started the question on everyones mind, who is this man?

For three days the people hung around; no place on earth better to go!

What was is that motivated Jesus to the point of exhaustion? Compassion! Even after all the accusation from the religious leaders, healings, and rebuking demons, his heart would not rest until the people received want they needed, food.

I have often wondered what it would take to do the same works as Christ. From the moment of my salvation I have prayed for the gift of healing. For me, it seemed the only right thing to do. Over the years I have seen many miracles performed by Christ through simple prayers of faith. Each time I was involved something wonderful took place inside of me. Feelings of compassion I could hardly contain came flowing from my inner most being. As I would pray for the one who needed healing, a deep sense of love and compassion took over me, and many times, it was at that point, I knew they were healed. Does healing take place every time? No, but there is always a reassurance of His presence deposited into the one in need of Him.

God wants to extend His compassion to His children for the healing of the nations. The compassion I have experienced was not my own, it was a gift. The heart of Jesus is alive and well upon this earth today and He wants to share His heart with us! Deposit in us, His heart of compassion, so that we might do the same works as He. Ps. 69:33 “For the Lord hears the needy and does not despise His who are prisoners”

Lord Jesus,

Grant us a heart of compassion that we might become your healing hands. Fill us with your anointing to do the works of God, day in and day out. Thank you for our leaders who work tirelessly for the name of Christ. Give us ears to hear your instruction and eyes full of compassion. That we might bring you glory!
