Who do you Worship? No Really who do you worship?

August 9 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Scripture
Jeremiah 1:16 I will utter My judgments
Against them concerning all their wickedness,
Because they have forsaken Me,
Burned incense to other gods,
And worshiped the works of their own hands.
Observation
Observation
I know that historically the “works of their own hands” refers specifically to the religious idols that the Israelites had embraced. They abandoned the One True God in favor of the false gods of their neighbors. In today’s world this is not as common. However people often “worship” their own creations. It may be an ideology or a philosophy. It could include material things as well as other people. It might even involve embracing a cause or a purpose. We can become so involved or immersed in these things that God is crowded out or at the least placed on the fringe.

However “worship” is to be for God and God alone. The Hebrew word Shachah means to bow down before and pay homage to. It seems to be closely related to the Hebrew words for swim sachuw and swimmer sachah. ¬Worship is found between these words in the Hebrew dictionary. Swimming involves being totally immersed in water. To truly worship God in spirit and in truth we need to be totally immersed in Him, His Love, His grace, His character.
Application
Application
I need to be careful not to allow anything to interfere with my “worship” of God. Nothing is more important than Him. Even being a “minister” can sometimes interfere with my “worship of God”. Therefore I must keep my guard up- not only against the bad things in this world, but also against the “good things” that can steal my worship awy from God.
Prayer
Prayer
Father, thank you for the constant reminders of your goodness and love. Help me to always see these things so that I might always worship you and you alone.
