Bringing Life to Dead Places

September 19 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Ezekiel 47:9 (New Living Translation) "There will be swarms of living things wherever the water of this river flows. Fish will abound in the Dead Sea, for its waters will become fresh. Live will flourish wherever this water flows."
What an interesting vision!

Two things caught my eye about this. One was FISH, because I love fishing. But more interesting was how Ezekiel is told how salty waters- waters too salty to sustain life- will become "fresh" and teeming with living things... as long as the water from this river flows there.

The references to this "salty sea" point to the Dead Sea- which carries its reputation for being totally devoid of life inside- becoming full of fish! The practically impossible feat of bringing life to a "dead-as-can-be" place, is being shown to Ezekiel in this vision!
Now, the vision of the waters flowing from the Temple door, out the gate, and on its way out, told me how important DEPTH is, as the living water made its way out to the salty sea. We cannot hope to bring quantities of life-giving water with a shallow rivulet, or a dribbling gutter! In the vision, the water got deeper exponentially with distance, until it was un-crossable but by swimming!

A daily time in God's word will help to deepen my walk with God, mining away the things that would have kept my faith shallow and superficial.

Taking an active role in the life of the church, getting beyond merely being a spectator, giving of myself by serving somewhere, anywhere, will ensure that my faith is a dynamic one and not a swampy, marshy, stagnant on that "will not be purified, still salty" (verse 11), because the bottom line is, "Life will flourish wherever this water flows".
Lord Jesus, from You flows Living Water! May I never be stagnant and swampy... forgive me when I become that way. Help me to be deep, active, and flowing. I want to be used by You to bring life to the deadest of places. I love You Jesus! Amen.

PS; If You ever decide to make the Dead Sea full of fish-- I'll SO be there with my pole! Hanapa'a!
