1-31-09 No One Takes Naked Priests Seriously

January 30 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Exodus 28:3
3 Tell all the skilled men to whom I have given wisdom in such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may serve me as priest.
It wasn’t up to Aaron to take a sewing class and make his own priestly robe. Moses stressed the importance of priestly garments as a need for Aaron – and there were people who had the ability to make these garments. The purpose was to honor God in the practice of worship. The garments drew attention to the role and function of the priesthood. The resources and skill provided by others were instrumental in the observance of worship led by the priests.
When others are willing to step up and use their resources and skills – it frees me to do my responsibilities. It is not unreasonable to stress the necessary participation of everyone in the economy of Christian community. To quote Red Green, “We’re in this together.” Perhaps many folks didn’t give Aaron’s robes a second thought, but consider this, it might be hard to take “naked priests” seriously.
God, help me to appreciate what others do to support my ministry as a leader. Also, help me to wisely educate others as to the importance of their roles in Christian community. Open our eyes, God, to see the need for each of us to faithfully step up with our time, talent and resources. Amen.
