Go beyond the call of duty

January 18 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Scripture
So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her. Genesis 29:20

Observation
After Laban had decieved Jacob for allowing his daughter Rachel to marry Jacob. Jacob already served seven years to Laban for Rachel's hand in marriage, and Jacob will serve another seven years; for a total of fourteen years. All of this because Jacob loved Rachel, to a point where he would go beyond the call of duty and go an extra seven years. This is what love is all about, to go beyond what is required of us to show God we love Him, and to show other we care for them. Jacob was more than willing to serve Laban for fourteen years to get Rachel's hand in marriage, and to Jacob it was a short time. This is what happens when true love is demonstrated, a willingness to serve and give that goes beyond what is required. This kind of love for God and others is what I want in me.
Application
What kind of love is in me? Do I go beyond the call of duty? I need to realize that God often times require me to go beyond the call of duty, to go the extra mile for people. In a selfish world that only thinks about "ME" more than others, can I show the world God's love. He often chooses me to show that love to people around me. And many times it takes me out of my comfort zone and go beyond the call of duty. God may require me to go an extra mile to show Him that I love Him. And many times it stretched my love, faith and obiedience. How far would I go to show God I love Him? How far would I go to show my love for people? Am I be willing to die for God and my fellow man? The answer is "YES"!!!

Prayer
Heavenly Father thank you for your word. I ask you to help me show my love for you and to share your love to others. Help me go beyond the call of duty and care for your people. In Jesus name. Amen.
