When God Calls You to a Higher Office

September 20 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Daniel 6:3-5 (NLT)

3 Daniel soon proved himself more capable than all the other administrators and high officers. Because of Daniel’s great ability, the king made plans to place him over the entire empire.
4 … the other administrators and high officers began searching for some fault in the way Daniel was handling government affairs, but they couldn’t find anything to criticize or condemn. He was faithful, always responsible, and completely trustworthy.
5 So they concluded, “Our only chance of finding grounds for accusing Daniel will be in connection with the rules of his religion.”
Daniel 6 is a beautiful story about the heart of God and how He used Daniel to ultimately turn King Darius the Mede, and the people, towards God. As the King made plans to promote Daniel to the next highest governmental position, Daniel met with extreme opposition from within his own party to the point of them devising a plan to take his life. Since the party could not find fault with how Daniel handled business affairs, they began to view his religious beliefs and practices. Daniel was faithful to God, prayed regularly, and when he discovered a law had been passed that he was not to pray to God, but instead to King Darius, he asked for God’s help. Daniel remained steadfast and faithful to God and continued to pray to Him. Through God’s intervention, Daniel’s life was spared and King Darius was praising God.
Whether or not I am called to a higher office or position, or just where I am right now, Daniel is a reminder of not only being a good and hard worker who need not be ashamed, but a Christian who is faithful to God, praying regularly, asking for His help, and giving thanks. And if I am ever judged for my “religious” beliefs, I pray I will be found innocent in His sight. I know God has a plan of hope and a future for me and through Daniel’s example, perhaps God is working on the heart of someone that I least expect.
Lord, I pray that I will be an example like Daniel and be a servant that can be used by You for the good of those around me. Amen.
