Comfort for God's People

December 23 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Isaiah 40

4 Every valley shall be raised up,
every mountain and hill made low;
the rough ground shall become level,
the rugged places a plain.

11 He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.
Prepare the way... remove the obstacles that keep you from hearing and seeing the Lord.

Now matter what, the glory of the Lord will be revealed. No matter the struggle to get our way -- like grass that withers, like flowers that fall -- our will can never bring fruit if it is not God's will.
So, what is the sense of seeking our own will? Won't it be done by God anyway? Let us make sure that we pursue his will and work towards its fulfillment.
Lord God, help us to clear the path towards You; that we may hear Your call, see the path You lay before us, and work on the things that please You. Teach us self sacrifice, just as Jesus has done...that Your will be done, not His. Help us to deny our selfish desires - raise up valleys, make mountains low, level rough grounds and rugged places plain - so that we may walk straight towards You. So that we cease to become lost sheep. Gather us in Your hands and lead us gently. Thank you Lord.
