Who are we?

April 16 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

I Samuel 17
45-47 David answered, "You come at me with sword and spear and battle-ax. I come at you in the name of God-of-the-Angel-Armies, the God of Israel's troops, whom you curse and mock. This very day God is handing you over to me. I'm about to kill you, cut off your head, and serve up your body and the bodies of your Philistine buddies to the crows and coyotes. The whole earth will know that there's an extraordinary God in Israel. And everyone gathered here will learn that God doesn't save by means of sword or spear. The battle belongs to God—he's handing you to us on a platter!"
God's timing - I've been thinking about this passage quite a bit, as I've come to (what I hope is) the end of a 3 year wilderness journey.
David - a mere youth - had the "stuff" to see the situation and (from what I can see) take up an offense for God! He was flabergasted that the giant was mocking the Living God AND that his brothers and countrymen were doing NOTHING!
I have often wondered if David already knew that God's hand was upon him, even at that young age. He obviously knew that it was God's hand of protection when the lion/bear turned on him. He must have known that God's power was some supernaturally "gifted" on him, so he didn't think twice about his response.
So then, my question - who are we? We who are under the blood and under grace - we've been told that we are more than conquerors! I don't know about you, but I sure haven't felt like a conqueror these past 3 years, much less act like one! But I think that's where the rub is - we want to "react" out of our feelings - I don't think that's what God intended. If He has left us with His Holy Spirit, then shouldn't we be thinking like David - willing to risk public embarrassment in the event of failure? I didn't read anywhere in the passage where David was "assured success". He just did it! I wonder if God wishes we just "did it" more often as well....
Heavenly Father - thank You for Your word, and that we can glean fresh, new truths from it every time we come to it!
I pray that You would show us where and how we can be more like David, and react out of our faith, instead of our feelings. In Your Son's precious name we pray.
