The Voice of My Beloved

June 11 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Song of Solomon 5: 2, 3

I sleep, but my heart is awake; It is the voice of my beloved! He knocks, saying  “ Open for me, my sister, my love, My dove, my perfect one; For my head is covered with dew, My locks with the drops of the night.”

I have taken off my robe;  How can I put it on again? I have washed my feet; How can I defile them?

Song of Solomon is a love story, an allegory, a depiction of Christ and the church. And I would do it no justice to try and explain the setting or time it was written. For there are times, when, to much explanation takes away from the beauty of the art...

She sleeps. But no rest is found, her mind is still active and restless with the cares of her day. Much time was spent on busyness and other nonessentials, neglecting the one thing that was needful. To sit at his feet and listen. As she lay down to sleep closing her eyes her mind drifts, but finds no rest, its then her true desires are awakened. His call to her, only now is heard, when she has laid down her work.

If any word could describe the time we live in, it would have to be “busy”; she is as busy as a bee! Hardly a argument there! But we must not blame our lack of intimacy with God due to a time card we punch in & out. We forget,.. just how refreshing his presence is and what is really important. As the saying, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder”, may be true, except in this one case; our relationship to God.

I find myself most restless when I ‘m not busy. I enjoy seeing what I have accomplished, at the days end. I can easily relate to her restless heart, though. Still, I must remember, where my heart is there I will find my treasure. And I must admit, hearing his sweet voice in the morning, sets my heart to hear him throughout the day.

To my beloved: Thank you for pursuing me with a love that covers a multitude of sins. My heart is yours! In your hand’s my heart is safe. Keep me as the apple of your eye and my response will have no delay. I am my beloved’s, And his desire is toward me. I love you!

In Jesus name,
