"There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of His roots. The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. His delight is in the fear of the LORD, and He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, nor decide by the hearing of His ears..."
Confrontation, exhortation, and warning... Words that can make the best of men, extremely unpopular. The prophet Isaiah was a man with a mission. And his message was two fold; Before you hear the good news you must hear the bad. But here in these verses he gives one of the great Old Testament prophecies regarding the promised Messiah. This passage prophetically foretells the anointing to be resident upon the Messiah, who would usher in a new era in human history.
Today, we know the Messiah! For He lives within us. As believers who have accepted Jesus, we have been given the same gift of His Spirit... So how then shall we live?
My heartís desire is to know Him in such a way, that others see His Spirit in me. I have lived long enough to know that my opinion outside of Christ has little meaning at all. Its only by the work of His Spirit that people are changed. And the fact that He has chosen us to pour His Spirit on; this will always be a mystery to me. But He does.. Because He knows, without Him we can do nothing.
Paul tells us to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. For it seems we leek and we need to be refreshed daily. He also reminds us not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Wisdom, understanding, counsel, and might. These are just a few of the generous endowment that the Holy Spirit imparts to us as we seek Him.
Father, thank you for sending us your Son, and giving us your Spirit. I pray your will be done on earth as itís being done in heaven. In the days ahead; may we be the light that shows others the way home. As we lay our life down before you, fill us with your Holy Spirit, that the world would recognize their Messiah.
