We Are Not in Egypt!

February 13 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Scripture
The LORD said to Moses, "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'I am the LORD your God. You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the LORD your God. - Leviticus 18:1-4

Observation
It's easy to go back to our old bad habits. It's easy to justify where were at so we can do our old bad habits. And how many times do we forget who God is?

Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, the place of suffering and pain, but they simply repeated old bad habits. God confronts them and said I am the LORD your God. Not Pharaoh, not any ruler in this world.

It's easy to follow the rules of this world rather than God. God has leaded us out of out pain and suffering. So why do we return to it? The old ways only leads us downhill. Does Jesus have to save us again and again from out Egypts? Sometimes we can bow down to the wrong things.

God is saying we should follow his laws everywhere we go. Only Gods law gives true life. A life that slowly day-by-day looks like Jesus.

Application
May I not fall into the trap of yesterday but live in the now with Christ. I am not the person yesterday and that is why I should live free from bad habits.

Begin born again isnt a new life that goes time traveling to the past but rather living for Christ today. So that day-by-day I will look a little more like Jesus then my old sinful past.
May I also no forget that God is my leader and ruler. That where ever I go Jesus is still my LORD.

And may I not go back to my own type of Egypt because God has promised me something better.

Prayer
Jesus, please forgive me for returning to my old ways And for even reason to justify it. You have something better for me but I keep on turning back. Show me how to live the way that I ought to live. May I pray the same prayer as David in Psalms 13.

How long, O LORD ? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart?

How long will my enemy triumph over me?
Look on me and answer, O LORD my God.

Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;

May you help me in this time so that you can take me to the Promised Land. In Jesus name. Amen!
