1 Corinthians 11:28-29
A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.
Here Paul is talking to the people of Corinth telling them of the proper way to take of the Lords Supper. People were eating before everyone was their and becoming full while others were just getting drunk from the wine and this was displeasing to the Lord. Paul tells them that they need to examine themselves before they partake in communion and recognize the meaning behind this supper and not make a mockery out of it.
We, as a church, partake in communion on the first Sunday of the month and have done so for a very long time. with this being a tradition we tend to let it just be a tradition and the true meaning behind it is, in a way, forgotten or put to the side. Now I am not saying that we don't remember why we do it or that everybody just does it as tradition, but what I am saying is that sometimes it just becomes some we DO monthly and when that Sunday comes we just take it and move on. well we need to change that mind set and whenever we take communion we need to remember the reason why we take it which is to remember the sacrifice JESUS CHRIST made for us on the cross. With Easter right around the corner, we need to make this change in our life and try not to make it just a monthly or yearly remembrance.
I thank you for the sacrifice you made for each and everyone one of us. You are truly a great God and awesome father. I pray that you will help me, along with all those who read this, to focus on you daily and to remember what you have done whenever we partake in communion. Help us not to loose sight on your glory.
