“Planted in the house of the Lord, They will still yield fruit in old age, they will be full of sap,and very green.”
In this psalm, scripture calls attention to the notable differences of the righteous and the unrighteous man. By comparing their life styles and actions we find a deeper exploration of life in its totality.
Both will flourish to be sure, the difference is how long they will last and what will be their end. For the wicked, time is short. They spout up fast, and fade like grass, only to be destroyed forever. While the righteous man grows slow and strong spreading his roots deeply. Still, in old age producing a life full of vigor, energy and drive, declaring the Lord is upright until the very end. And in return, God saves the best part of life until last!
I must never underestimate my life as small or less important than it actually is. Although, in the eyes of man it may just be that small, and that’s o.k. In His eyes, my life is worth everything, and that is enough for me.
What a joy it is to know that you see my life from the beginning to the end. May I bring you honor and flourish like the palm tree, planted in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. No matter how small I may seem to myself or others, you make me feel as though I can touch the sky!
