God's Justice and Love Go Hand in Hand

August 20 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Jeremiah 48:42 Moab will be destroyed as a nation because she defied the LORD.
God takes things very seriously. He tells us what things are good and results in blessing. He tells us what things are bad and result in destruction. He is equally faithful to bless for obedience and destroy for defiance.
God's desire is to extend grace. That is equally true in the Old and New Testaments. When people sin against Him He gives them plenty of time to repent. That is one aspect of God's grace. But there comes a time when his righteousness requires action. He tells us to humble ourselves.

We need to constantly examine our lives, asking God to examine our hearts. He desires a happy and joyful relationship that goes both ways. If I cheat on my wife and expect her to be happy with me, I've lost my marbles. This isn't to say we need to live in fear, unless of course we have something to fear. Live life for God like you mean it. Take it seriously, because He does.
Thank you, Lord, for the joy, peace, and rest I can find in you, especially when my world feels like its falling apart. Show me how to live my life for you in a holy way driven by love for you first. Thank you for your grace. Help me not to take advantage of it. Thank you Jesus!
