"For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh . . . wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? Thanks be God through Jesus Christ our Lord! (Rom 7:18,24,25)
The passage highlights the struggle we all have as God's children - between the old self and the new person. The battle rages within to produce fruit that leads to righteousness, or death-smelling produce that leads to unrighteousness.
The sooner I am convinced and agree with what God says about the flesh, the better I am able to understand and deal with it's outbreaks and the devastation it carries!
In the movie 'outbreak', the deadly Mitola virus was originated in the body of a monkey, the host. But the host not only carried the virus, but the antidote to overcome the sickness and death the virus brought. One host, 2 outcomes - life or death! Its the same with me! I carry around the potential of death or life; righteousness or unrighteousness; evil or good; victory or defeat. Its the raging battle within we all face and like Paul, I get exasperated into failure and hopelessness at times. Its not until I am reminded that there is victory, hope, and another way to live . . . through the unending, ever-available, overwhelmingly powerful life of the Lord Jesus made real and alive in me . . . everyday!
Lord, open the eyes of my understanding that victory in life should be the norm, not the exception. Fix my heart on You . . . today!
