Fight Good Fight

December 14 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

1 Timothy 4:12-14 (New International Version,

12 Donít let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. 14 Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
Paul Teaches many different subjects in these four chapters. he starts with looking at himself first and recognising the grace that God has bestowed on him. Then he goes on to talk about how men and women as individuals and spouces ought to treat each other and others and act in the church and family context. He goes on to warn Timothy about dangers of false doctrine and about things to come. But in all of this he is encouraging Timothy to fight the good fight; to know and meditate on scripture; to teach in truth and faith; to pray and worship in truth and in the spirit. He encourages them that despite how young he is, he has been given many spiritual gifts to do the work of God. He must remember he is not alone. The Lord God is with him and will give him all he needs to look after the Church he has been appointed too.
Paul was teaching Timothy how to teach the Church to be the Church. Timothy now must take what Paul has instructed and pass it on to the deacon's and congreation. Timothy is learning to become a minister of God's Word.
i am young, I am in ministry. I teach Scripture. I have a great responsiblity on my shoulders to minister the truth to those i work with in the Church. this is a great responsibility. One that i cant take lightly. I play a part in teaching and encouraging my fellow believers to know and follow Jesus. This can be hard sometimes and sometimes you can get discouraged and feel like your not getting anywhere. But Paul in his letter to Timothy is encouraging him to fight the good fight. Not to give you. To be wise and watch out for dangers that can happen in the church. He tells him he has all spiirutal gifts to do God's work. So he is not alone.
Father you have given me a great responsibility to adminster your word to those i serve. I pray for your help and strength to do that well. I pray that i will use the gifts, talents and skills you have given me to me the follower of Christ that you want me to be. May i be used to adminster your truth into people's lives so that they too can come to know you as i do. thank you for Paul and for men like Timothy. Thank you for your word today. Help me to remember what i learned today and keep it on my heart.
