February 13 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Acts 21.37-39: 37) As Paul was about to be brought into the barracks, he said to the tribune, "May I say something to you?" And he said, "Do you know Greek? 38) Are you not the Egyptian, then, who recently stirred up a revolt and led the four thousand men of the Assassins out into the wilderness?" 39) Paul replied, "I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no obscure city. I beg you, permit me to speak to the people."
It is all about identity. The tribune made some assumptions about who Paul was…and they weren’t even close. This mistake in identity could have cost Paul his life.
My natural tendency is to put people in boxes (actually, I strive to classify and categorize people)…that way I can keep my assumptions and thoughts about people nice-n-neat.

But what if my assumptions are wrong? Or, more accurately…are my assumptions ever really right? So, I ask myself, “What, then, am I really doing to people?”
Father, forgive me for attempting to put your wonderful creations into boxes…you designed them to be explored and appreciated. Please give me the wisdom and insight to do that! AMEN!
