" Even so Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness" (Gal 3:6)
Paul is unfolding for the church in Galatia the great teaching of 'justification by faith'.
As in Romans 4, Paul shows that God simply took something that belonged to Him - His own righteousness - and credited it to Abaham who did nothing to earn of accumalate it, but received it by Faith!
This is a one-sided transaction. When God performed the ancient covenant before Abraham (Gen 15), only He walked through the pieces of animals cut in half, signifying that this agreement was unbreakable and guaranteed!
How easy it is to go back to what we feel to be safe - performing for God and trying to please Him in order to find His favour.
God is not pleased with my efforts, my service, my offerings and sacrifices if they are done outside of Faith.
He delights when His children walk, live, believe, serve by faith in His word and Son.
Jesus Himself was pleased by the faith of those who came like children, and those who came by faith like mustard seeds.
When we take God's word seriously, we will always take hold of the invisible, the intangible, the promises that are afar off. And in doing so,we embrace all that is God . . . that's living by faith!
Father, Abraham believed your word eben though everything around him seemed to contradict the reality of it unfolding.
Encourage my heart to walk by faith to realise that unless my journey is saturated in trusting you, I will always go back to the familiar dead end.
