An excellent wife is a crown to her husband, But she who causes shame is like rottenness to his bones.
This proverb gives for us a snapshot of two completely different women. The contrast couldnít be more clear. One brings honor the other shame. God leaves the choice in our hands.
As I read this proverb my soul cries out to those casually passing by. Please take heed! Read between the lines and you will discover as wife's we will be one or the other. For it is impossible to be both at the same time.
Choice is such an important issue of our day. Even TV shows give the viewer a chance to help choose the winner? American idol is my favorite I love when my most-liked is still standing after all the votes are counted. I feel good about my choice! So why is it that we donít count the choices we make everyday as wife's just as important? Reality shows can be fun but remember we get to walk away and turn the TV off. In life and marriage our choices announce to the world around us who we really are.
As a wife I have walked in the shoes of both of these women. I can tell you from experience, once you have walked the road of shame you never want to go that way again. When something rots it takes time to see the decay it doesnít happen over night. Sometimes, you canít see the process on the outside until its to late. However, anytime we neglect our responsibilities as a wife the process begins.
On the road of excellence there is a light that guides us. Each step we take is a choice made from the heart. The process begins as we spend time in Godís word. Knocking on the door of insight, He gives us eyes to see. Asking for His heart for our marriage, we gain understanding. Seeking His help we are granted strength to walk in His ways. Insight, heart and strength become the tools in Godís hand as He chips away at the hard clay of our hearts. Though the process doesnít happen over night we begin to discover His ways lead to life. And the outcome? Our husbands and families are honored by God and man! God makes everything beautiful in His timing.
Father, thank you for my marriage. Through my husband you have taught me about unconditional love. Inside this special covenant you have healed me, changed me and made me the women I am today. Give me all that I need to stand beside Steve, to support him, encourage him, and to love him like you do... And may I bring him joy and honor!
