It is Finished!

December 12 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Scripture
John 19:30
“Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up the Spirit.”

Observation

When Christ died not even his own disciples fully understood what happened. They did not perceive how ”It is finished” would impact humanity.

We the people of the USA find ourselves under a government with a mind-boggling problem. We owe a debt we cannot pay. These debts are so astonishing the whole world feels their effects. In 1 John 3:8b, it says, “The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.” The works of the devil are such, sin, rebellion, temptation, ruling the world, power of death, etc.

All of us have known Satan's rule in our life to one degree or another. He invites us to take part in numerous ways, hiding the price we must pay to be apart of his world. The good news, we no longer have to abide under the devil’s diabolical rule. “It is finished” is our assuredness that the debt we owed a Holy God is now paid in full! We are free to choose!
Application

My understanding of what Christ meant when He said, "It is finished" means I can now walk in the righteousness of Christ. The way Christ defeated the devil was His righteous. He chose to do it God’s way, not man’s way or the world’s way, but God’s way. Yes, God’s way took him to the cross so that we could say no to the devil ourselves. May we all come to the understanding, that “It is finished!”

Prayer

Dear Lord,

You told us it is finished knowing, we would have to face the devil’s schemes and endeavors to get us away from the path of righteousness. Brighten our path as we choose to walk in your ways. Fills us with power and might to be witnesses to a world that has not yet heard the best three words ever spoken.

In Christ alone!
