God's calling

October 18 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Acts 8: 18-23 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money 19and said, "Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit."

20Peter answered: "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! 21You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. 22Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."

cts 8:18-23

Simon got baptized believing this was necessary in order for him to be empowered by the Holy Spirit. As he followed Phillip, he had approached this as a learning experience, rather then an invitation for God and the Holy Spirit to work in his heart and be obedient to Him. Phillip corrected Simon stating he must turn away (repent) from this self-centeredness and pray to God for forgiveness. Simon's pride still got in the way when he chose not to pray himself, but asked Phillip to speak on his behalf.
When I pray for others, I know my prayers are heard by God, but it is the Holy Spirit's presence that heals, restores and blesses those who love the Lord.
Dear God, thank you for being all loving and powerful to protect me from the enemy. I am reminded that my pride and ego interferes with your work in making me a christian woman for God. I give you my heart and mind to correct and bring me closer to you.
