There’s No Better Way

October 3 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Scripture
Luke 16:13 Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
Observation
Today when God speaks, I listen closely. It’s because I don’t want to miss a single word coming from the Conversation Room of my heavenly Father. When Jesus walked this earth, He spoke many gems of wisdom worthy to be passed on from generation to generation. To this I must make every effort to lend my attentive ear so each piece of nugget is not wasted also. Not only is it priceless to be a great listener, it’s just as valuable to apply this wisdom to today’s daily living. This makes life a success story, this makes life’s journey well traveled.

What is the valuable life lesson God wants to convey to us? Well, it’s plain as black and white, there’s no gray area to it. He wants us to know- do not be unfaithful, but by all means be faithful. Do not flirt with the love of money. “Choose this day who you will serve: will you love God most?” Remember, God wants our heart’s total devotion; just as a husband cherishes a wife who is 100% trustworthy and faithful to him. Yes, indeed, love God with all of our heart’s dedication, our breath of life, and even our finances.
Application
Here’s a story of a father and son. The father is well into his winter years, his son in his autumn years. Usually, every father loves his child and wants to provide for them if at all possible; no matter if he doesn’t understand God’s ways. Yet, the uniqueness of this particular pair of father and son relationship seemed to prove contrary. The father was a well-to-do business CEO, the son was a pastor. The father lived in the city in his million dollar condo; both pastor and his wife lived in a humble cottage in the country. According to the world’s perspective their father was a hero and a success; they were barely making ends meet. Yet, struggle as they may, without the extra things of comfort, the father refused to help out a cent.
We know about the principle, “we can not out give God; He will supply all our needs.” This applies to all who put their trust and obedience in God’s ways. Yes, perhaps here on earth’s journey, we may not have the fancy luxuries of wealth; but, in the end if we follow the Truth, who is richer? Indeed, the pastor and his wife represent a whole bunch of us; for we will receive just rewards well beyond our expectations. Why? Because our hearts please God and our actions steward His provisions well. Therefore, since God is a fair and a just God, we can be assured… He will provide beyond our momentary financial needs. He even yearns to give generously to make our hopes and dream to come true. Psalm 37:25 says, “I was young and now I am old, yet I’ve never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging for bread.” This includes all aspects of life’s provisions-physically, spiritually, mentally, everything necessary and beyond. Only, do it God’s way…
Prayer
Dearest Lord, in this world, many times things happening around us seems unfair. The meek are pushed around like the weak. The humble snickered at. But I find out that Your eyes catch everything; yet You feel quite the opposite of the emotions the world holds dear. Lord, You prove to me time and time again, “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied” (Mt. 5:3, 6). God, I hunger to see through Your eyes so I can understand and obey Your ways. Although the world may not see Your plan as their choice; as for me and my house, we joy in choosing to live life for the reason to please You above all. There’s no better way!
