Being Real

October 12 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

Acts 1:8b
“you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
The command that Jesus gave his disciples is the same command that we are obligated and privileged to obey. Being a witness or to testify can only be credible if I have first-hand knowledge of the event or of the person for whom I am testifying. I have shared the gospel with folks whom God put in my life over the years and felt the Holy Spirit working in me as I shared with them what it meant for me to have that personal relationship with Jesus. And I saw the struggle that each of them was going through but had to resist the temptation of lecturing them about how to be saved. I realized that if my life was not the kind of life they would desire to live, my words would be hollow. The strength of my relationship with Christ will determine the power of my witnessing. Am I being real today with my actions, thoughts and words?
My daily task is to sustain the personal relationship that enables me share my testimony that is real. Jesus said, "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (Matthew 10:37-39). I will need to be “all in” if I want to maintain my relationship with my Savior. My full commitment to Christ will be reflected in my thoughts and deeds.
My Father in Heaven, thank you for counting me as your own even though you are more faithful than I can ever hope to be. Forgive my failures when my life detracts rather than enhances my ability to share the gospel. Sharpen my senses to hear your voice that will strengthen my relationship with you. Guide my life so that the next person I meet will see the fruits of our relationship. In Christ’s name I pray.
