The Real Deal

April 6 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

We have proved ourselves to be what we claim by our wholesome lives….We have been truthful… We stand true to God whether others honor us or despise us, whether they criticize us or praise us… The world ignores us yet we are known of God… We are poor, but we give rich spiritual gifts to others. We own nothing, and yet we enjoy everything. (Excerpts from 2 Corinthians 6, Living Bible)
Paul is an incredible guy! He had his priorities in order and they all began with truthfulness. Being true to himself and true to God. And with that as his backdrop, he could joyfully say, I am poor, yet I enjoy everything. Ignored of men yet known of God. Who cares if no one knows my name? God has it written on the palm of his hand. Who cares if I’m not a millionaire? Someday, I will rule kingdoms. That is my inheritance as a child of God.
Today, God’s Word is challenging me to be a man of truthfulness. No phony baloney. No hocus pocus. No shuck and jive. I must be genuine. The real deal. I cannot be “Mr. Spiritual” at church on Sunday and then live in the flesh when no one is looking. God is always looking. And besides, most people can spot a phony a mile away anywho. So I will be faithful and true. I will be genuine. Live my life worthy of my calling. That is my reasonable service.
O God, thank you for your Word that speaks truth to my heart. May I live my life today, and everyday, in a way that is pleasing in your sight, I pray. Amen.
